President Trump making a public statement a day after his historic Senate impeachment trial ended in an acquittal on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. All Republican senators except Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah voted in unison to acquit President Trump on the abuse of power charge.
The trial was the first in U.S. history without witnesses. The acquittal follows a State of the Union address in which Trump pointed to the strong economy as vindication as he sought to move on from impeachment.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December. The crux of the case for his impeachment is the allegation that he withheld military aid and a White House meeting to pressure Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden and his son. Hunter Biden served on the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company, while his father was vice president.
