Harare-The MDC Women’s Assembly has expressed concern over the continued abductions and abuse of women in the country.
Spokesperson for the assembly Barbra Tanyanyiwa, said they are angered by the various acts of women abuse by Zanu PF and suspected security forces.
“The MDC women’s assembly, representing progressive mothers of Zimbabwe would like to express its anger over the various acts of women abuse that continue to be perpetrated by Zanu PF and alleged members of the uniformed forces” said Tanyanyiwa
Referring to the abduction of Midlands youth chair Tanyanyiwa said the beatings were a clear testimony of Zanu PF’s nature.
“In this instance, the abduction of MDC Midlands Youth Assembly Chair Sekai Marashe also known as Muchaina by Zanu PF and her subsequent beatings, torture and the dehumanisation done at Zanu PF Kwekwe offices this past week is yet another testimony of the callous nature of this party.
“Just last week we saw them abduct our popular comedian Gonyeti and forced her to drink sewage water” she said
Tanyanyiwa castigated Zanu PF national political commissar Victor Matemadanda and Youth league secretary for administration Pupurai Togarepi for alleged taking the law into their own hands.
“Recently we all heard Victor Matemadanda and Pupurai Togarepi threatening the MDC before, and just after the demonstrations that ‘MDC ichazviona’
“These are Zanu PF stalwarts and it is now acceptable that these two must be allowed to take the into their nostrils simply because they are Zanu PF. Why should we keep quiet when women are being violated blatantly?”
There has been an increase of abductions and beatings of people suspected to be opposing the Government among them political activists and comedians.
Recently police said they were investigating the abduction and torture of comedian Samantha Kureya (Gonyeti).
There has been mixed reactions to the abductions with the Government claiming a third force being behind the abductions.
