Suspected bombs have been found in the mail of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton in the last 24 hours, the US Secret Service has announced.

The packages sent to Obama and Clinton contained “functional explosive” devices, the AP reports. Officials are still investigating the scene at CNN’s headquarters at Time Warner Center.

“The packages were immediately identified during routine mail screening procedures as potential explosive devices and were appropriately handled as such,” the Secret Service said.

The White House has condemned the attempted attacks, saying “these terrorising acts are despicable'”.

A full-scale manhunt is now underway to find the individuals responsible.

Both packages were pro-actively detonated by officials.
