Top US official stands by call to ‘kill all Muslims’

July 15, 2017

A local official from the the midwestern United States state of Michigan has refused to apologise for calling for the killing of “every last Muslim” on Facebook.

Kalkaska village President Jeff Sieting said on Monday that he does not owe anyone an apology over the posts, the Record-Eagle of Traverse City reported

Sieting had also called for nuclear weapons to be used on the world’s ten largest Muslim-majority cities.

The posts were discovered by Kalaska resident Cindy Anderson, who along with others had attempted to get Sieting to apologise last month.

Anderson is now part of a group looking to remove the village president from office.

“You ran for office to represent all of the people of this community, not just the white, non-Muslim ones,” Anderson said to Sieting. “You were supposed to represent all of your constituents.”

A Facebook post Sieting shared said Muslims are destructive and “there is simply no place for them in our world”.

He has defended his actions by saying that he is protected by the First Amendment, which protects the right to free expression.

“I don’t expect everyone to see things the way I do,” Sieting said.

Sieting, a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, has also come under fire for posting a sign on his hotel that asks Americans to pray for Trump.

With Sieting refusing to stand down from his stance, local residents have created the “Kalkaska Residents for Peace” Facebook group and considering their next steps.

Anderson said the group of over 150 people are considering a potential recall and running against him in 2018
